Ep. 1 - The Sauna Trail

Our family stumbled upon Finnish sauna back in 2015 and it’s been quite the adventure for us. After our discovery, we knew we wanted a sauna of our own but our backyard was too small at the time. So we loaded up our four kids and set out to use a bunch of different saunas. After visiting over 100 unique saunas the past several years, we’re excited to share this journey with you through The Sauna Trail podcast.

Come along to hear what it’s like to experience the roasty heat of 250 degrees and the frigid water of a frozen lake where a hole was cut in the ice. We’ll take you to Canada where we went sledding after sauna… in our birthday suits. Then set out with us on another adventure where we went all the way to Austin, Texas and took sauna in nearly 100° heat, as in that was the temperature outside the sauna. Hear about our travels to find the mysterious smoke sauna in North America and where we finally get to use one. What’s a smoke sauna, you ask? Well, stick around and find out!

We’ll recount what it was like to meet complete strangers at their sauna deep in the woods… and not get ax murdered. Laugh with us when we tell you about saunaing buck naked with people we’ve never met before. Join us as we experience a house fire, a broken arm, a crashed vehicle, muddy logging roads, “training for special forces”, and a bonus side quest to find the best pasty in the UP.

A few years ago we moved to a house where we could build our own sauna so we’ll share that process and how we came up with the unconventional design. 

And finally the big big question: Will our trail eventually take us to Finland?

Sauna has created so many wonderful memories for our family of so many places with so many lovely people. We hope each episode will warm your heart, make you laugh or maybe cry.  But most of all, our goal is that The Sauna Trail will encourage you to seek your own Finnish sauna experience and perhaps even build one to create sweet memories for you and yours.
